If you’re outside the UK, you can apply as early as six months before your course starts, and decisions usually come within three weeks. The duration of your stay depends on your course—up to five years for degree-level studies and up to two years for courses below degree level.

Applying for a Student visa costs £490, whether you’re applying from outside or extending from within the UK. With this visa, you can study, work as a student union sabbatical officer, and in some cases, take up part-time work. However, you can’t claim public funds, work as a professional athlete, be self-employed, or study at certain schools.

UK Visitor Visa fees, Eligibility,

The fees of applying for a UK Visitor Visa primarily stands at £83. However, if you plan to visit the UK multiple times over an extended period, you will need to pay for a long-term visit visa. The fee structure for long-term visas is as follows: £300 for a 1-year or 2-year visa, £544 for a 5-year visa, and £737 for a 10-year visa. Make sure to choose the right option based on your travel needs!

Required Documents for a UK Visitor Visa

When applying for a UK General Visitor Visa, you must provide the following documents:

  • Valid Passport – A current passport or other valid travel ID
  • Passport-Sized Photos – Two recent color photographs
  • Financial Proof – Bank statements or payslips (last 6 months) to show you can support yourself
  • Accommodation & Travel Details – Proof of where you’ll stay and your travel plans (Do not book before visa approval!)
  • Blank Passport Page – At least one blank page on both sides for your visa
  • Certified Translations – Any documents not in English or Welsh must be officially translated
  • Additional Documents – May be required based on individual circumstances

For Long-Term Visit Visa Applicants: 

  • Must provide proof of financial stability for the entire visa duration
  • If financial proof is insufficient, you may receive a shorter visa than requested
  • No refunds if granted a shorter visa or if the application is rejected
